  • How did the crossover between these two PuyoPuyo / Tetris licenses come about ?

    Puyo Puyo and Tetris have their own history and their own fans around the world, but when I was in high school as a fan and player of the games, I wondered what it would be like if these two action puzzle games were pitted against each other. Around 2007, after the development of the 15th anniversary Puyo Puyo title was finished, the team members and I had a bunch of ideas. One of the ideas we came up with was the original plan for "Puyo Puyo Tetris". There were a lot of problems in combining the different game systems into one game, but we thought it would be great if Puyo Puyo and Tetris fans could play together and become fans of both games, which would make the action puzzle game genre more exciting. Puyo Puyo Tetris was a huge worldwide success, and we received a lot of feedback from fans who were looking forward to a second game, which is how we ended up creating Puyo Puyo Tetris 2.

  • What will be the newest feature in this sequel ?

    There are many new features to experience. These include the new "Skill battle" ruleset, new characters, new character cut-ins when performing chains, RENs and T-spins, independent online rankings for "Puyo Puyo" and "Tetris", and online rankings for Endless mode.

  • Have you thought of riding the wave of Battle Royale like Tetris 99 did so well ?

    As a game designer, you’d probably come across a Battle Royale game proposal at some point, but there are many challenges to overcome, and due to various reasons, it has never come to fruition. If there are suggestions on the type of game that is preferred, we’d like to know.

  • Are you concerned that the release of Next Gen consoles and a AAA titles will interfere with a successful release for Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 ?

    Since Puyo Puyo and Tetris are games that can be enjoyed regardless of purchase timing, I'm hoping that people will pick Puyo Puyo Tetris up and enjoy it at the same time as the next generation of games and AAA titles. I’m not particularly concerned about the timing, since if you have one puzzle game, it can be played quickly and easily with family and friends. (But the production team would be happy if you do purchase it!)

  • You are launching the game on most platforms, including PS5 and Xbox Series, but not in VR. Do you think you will be tempted by a release on Quest 2 or SteamVR as is the case for Tetris Effect?

    I'm interested in VR itself, and we've been researching it within SEGA. We don't currently have any plans for "Puyo Puyo" related to VR, but it would be nice to be able to create something in the future since VR is constantly evolving with the elimination of cables and increased functionality.
